Peter Patterson

 


Peter Patterson qualified as an actuary in the mid 1970s and enjoyed a successful career in the insurance/reinsurance industry. He served as president and CEO of the Mercantile and General Reinsurance Company for over 10 years with responsibility for the life, health and property and casualty business in Canada, the U.S. and Latin America. Subsequent to a merger with Swiss Re, Mr. Patterson was president of the company’s North American life operation until mid 1997. He has been active in industry matters, chairing the Canadian Reinsurance Conference, serving on the board of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association, and leading the industry task force on AIDS.


Since 1997 he has spent much of his time working with non-profit organizations, serving as Chair of World Vision Canada and on the board of Stonegate Ministry, and volunteering as business director for Wycliffe College, a theological college at the University of Toronto. Corporately, Mr. Patterson is on the board of RBC Insurance for its life, general and travel businesses.
